What are Player Prop Bets?

Player prop bets, often called “props,” focus on individual players’ actions rather than the overall game result. They’re popular in various sports, especially in baseball. In the MLB, these bets zoom in on specific player achievements such as hits, strikeouts, home runs, etc.

Looking for a place to try these out? Head over to a major sportsbook. For instance, DraftKings Sportsbook offers a menu of bets for any MLB game.

Nick Martinez U 3.5 Strikeouts (-120) (DraftKings) | Player Prop

Our first player prop for today’s games is Nick Martinez under 3.5 strikeouts.

Martinez has gone under this line in eight of his ten appearances this season.

Notably, he has only pitched four or more innings in six of those ten games, going under in four of the six games.

In a recent matchup against the Padres, Martinez pitched five innings and recorded just three strikeouts.

Furthermore, this season the Padres have averaged the 4th fewest strikeouts in the MLB, averaging 7.4 strikeouts per game.

Given Martinez’s record this season and the Padres’ ability to avoid strikeouts, we like Martinez to go under his strikeout’s line in today’s game.

Austin Gomber U 2.5 Earned Runs (-145) (DraftKings) | Player Prop

The next player prop catching our attention is Austin Gomber under 2.5 earned runs.

Gomber is averaging just 1.7 earned runs per game this season. Impressively, he has gone under this line in each of his last three games and in seven of his last eight.

Tonight, Gomber faces the Oakland Athletics, a team that ranks fifth lowest in the MLB for runs per game.

Considering Gomber’s recent strong performances and the favorable matchup against the A’s, we like the under for Gomber tonight.

Max Fried U 5.5 Hits Allowed (-175) (DraftKings) | Player Prop

The next player prop for tonight’s games is Max Fried under 5.5 hits allowed.

Fried has gone under this line in four of his last five games and in six of his seven starts this season.

The three games where he exceeded this line were against Houston (1st), San Diego (6th), and Arizona (10th), all of whom rank in the top ten for hits recorded per game.

Tonight, Fried faces the Chicago Cubs, who record the 6th fewest hits per game this season and the fewest over the last ten games.

Additionally, last season, Fried allowed just three hits to the Cubs in six innings of action.

Considering these factors, we like the under for Fried tonight.

Chris Bassitt U 5.5 Hits Allowed (-110) (DraftKings) | Player Prop

Last but not least, the final player prop for tonight’s games is Chris Bassitt under 5.5 hits allowed.

Bassitt has gone under this line in each of his last three games and in five of his nine starts this season.

He has been particularly strong at home, staying under this line in four of five home games.

Notably, in three of the games where he exceeded this line, he faced top-tier batting teams: the Astros (1st), Dodgers (3rd), and Padres (6th).

Tonight, Bassitt faces the White Sox, who record the 2nd fewest hits per game in the MLB.

Given these factors, we’re confident in Bassitt going under this hits allowed line tonight.

Three-leg Parlay (-137) (DraftKings)

Last but not least, it wouldn’t be a Hall of Fame Bets blog post without utilizing the Parlay Optimizer to build a parlay for tonight’s slate.

This parlay consists of these three legs from DraftKings:

This parlay hit in 100% of games this season, while it hit in a combined 54% of games last season, with an implied odds of -118.

At -137 odds on DraftKings, the value of this parlay is just too good to pass up on.
